Mark 10:9 (KJV): “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

According to Scripture, it is God who joins men and women together in marriage. While people may meet and consent to union, the true joining that gives divine backing comes from God Himself.
There are principles by which God does this joining. One of these principles is found in 2 Corinthians 13:1. The Bible says, “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established”.
This means that the marriage covenant is not established in isolation but through witnesses. This is why bringing a union before the church is not a mere formality but a spiritual necessity.
We live in a world where cohabitation is widely accepted, and many believe that as long as two people are happy and committed to each other, that is sufficient. Some question the necessity of getting married in church. But as believers, it is important to respect God’s order.
The church is the most defining witness for a believer’s union. Jesus called the church His body. To bring a marriage before the church is to bring it under spiritual covering, accountability, and prayer.

PRAYER: Loving Father, thank You for this word. You are the author of covenants. It is by Your grace that I honour Your principles in marriage. My heart submits to Your order. I exalt Your ways in all that I do. I know that every union You establish is strengthened by Your grace and preserved for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
