Genesis 3:24 (KJV): “So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.”

When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they became exposed to a consciousness God had never intended for man to carry. Through that act of disobedience, corruption entered, and with it came a fallen awareness that was foreign to the life and purity God had ordained for them. In His mercy, the Lord prevented them from eating of the tree of life, for had they done so in that corrupted state, they would have remained forever alive in corruption. Such is the profound power of the tree of life.
In Proverbs 15:4, the Bible gives us a glimpse into this mystery when it says, “A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” When a man’s tongue is governed by truth, life flows through it. Such a tongue becomes preservative, healing, and life-giving, even in the midst of a world where corruption is present.
Ecclesiastes 7:15 points to this reality. It says, “All things have I seen in the days of my vanity: there is a just man that perisheth in his righteousness, and there is a wicked man that prolongeth his life in his wickedness.” How does this wicked man prolong his life even in his wickedness? It is through his tongue, because life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Though his nature is corrupted, his tongue can still preserve his life.
In His ultimate plan of redemption, God dealt with the question of corruption. He made you incorruptible by begetting you through the incorruptible seed of His Word. By this qualification, you have the liberty to eat freely of the tree of life. Therefore, speak God’s truth with boldness regardless of your circumstances. Always have a wholesome tongue! For this reason, a child of God should not be afraid to talk big, confess the seemingly impossible and speak forth things beyond human comprehension. Hallelujah!

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. My tongue is tamed, and my confessions are aligned with Your truth. I will never speak anything contrary to my knowledge of who You are. In this liberty, I declare that I am great, I am going upward only, and I will never fail. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
