More often than not, people measure worth by external success, looking down on those who are poorer, less educated, or of a lower social class. Some see money as a metric of human value. However, this is not the way of God.
The story of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16 serves as a sobering warning regarding how we treat those who are less privileged or financially disadvantaged. In life, the rich man feasted sumptuously while ignoring Lazarus, a poor, sore-covered beggar who lay outside his gate. But eternity radically flipped the script. When both died, the rich man found himself looking to Lazarus for relief. The Bible says that the rich man begged for Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water to cool his tongue.
Part of the moral of this story is that you should never scoff at anyone you consider less privileged; their condition does not make them less valuable in the sight of God.
Our theme scripture makes it abundantly clear: both the poor and the rich have equal dignity before the Almighty God. He is the Creator of them both, and He does not judge by wealth, title, or status. When we scoff at a poor person or treat someone of a lower class with contempt, we dishonour their Maker and misuse the very riches God entrusted to us.
Never despise the man who has less than you today; the person you overlook is no less valuable in the sight of God. Remember, circumstances can change. The one you look down on today may one day be in a position where you need their help. Therefore, let your financial resources be guided by honour, humility, and generous love for every soul, regardless of their status.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for this word. I receive it with humility and turn its torch inward. Remind me daily that every person is created in Your image and that both the rich and the poor are equal in Your sight. I treat with respect every individual regardless of status and steward wealth for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
