As a believer, learning to pray for your enemies is a core requirement of the Christian walk. The emphasis of New Covenant intercession is never on praying against your enemies, but on praying for them. True intercession asks that God may bless them, teach them, heal the wounds in their hearts, and help them where they are secretly struggling.
Unfortunately, many believers still carry an Old Covenant mindset regarding how enemies should be treated. We see this in the account of Elijah, who called down fire from heaven to consume the soldiers sent to arrest him (2 Kings 1:9-18). It is the exact same attitude many bring into their prayer closets today: demanding that fire consume their opponents, praying that they be buried by struggles, or waiting eagerly for their downfall.
In the New Covenant, Jesus revealed a radically different perspective. While hanging on the cross, accused and executed for crimes He never committed, His response was, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do” (Luke 23:34). Stephen possessed this exact same heart in Acts 7. As heavy stones rained down to kill him, he fell to his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.”
This must become the posture of your heart. When faced with opposition, your desire should be that God’s mercy prevails, that your persecutors are spared from judgment, and that their hearts are transformed by His grace.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this divine instruction. If there be any bitterness against those who harmed me, I release it and them today. I choose to obey Your command to pray for those who mistreat or oppose me. I ask that Your mercy cover them, Your truth break through their hardness, and Your grace lead them to true repentance and salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
