John 6:65-68 (KJV); And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
Jesus was often followed by multitudes. Scripture explains in one instance that for a period of three continuous days, they were with him as he preached and ministered. Here were men, women and children seemingly oblivious to their hunger that it took the compassion of the master to meet the need for food for their bodies (Matthew 15:32).
But what truly drove these crowds? Christ unmasked one of their motives in John 6:26, revealing that they followed him because he had fed them. In other words, they wanted him because of what he could do to satisfy their human needs and not what he could do for the destiny of their souls.
It is saddening to a man of God who carries the true burden of the Spirit when he weighs the hearts of his listeners only to find that their hunger is for bread and never for life.
He can see, by the eyes of the spirit, that to some, the presence of God is only useful in as far as it will enable them to find a job, get a spouse, have a child and improve their business. But that is bread, child of God and as surely as the sun rises and sets every day, you will still hunger. Need by nature is a bottomless chasm. Need begets need.
Life is what is eternal and sometimes, through the many teachings that come to our spirits, we must be able to cling to what we know is life. Men seeking after bread abandon the gospel so easily because of the superficiality of their desire. Men who find life can stand even in the absence of bread. They will stay with Christ even when they lose their jobs; stay with Christ even when their relationships are threatened; stay with Christ when their businesses are struggling because they know and see life!

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this truth. You are my strength and the fountain of my life. You are my source and foundation. I refuse to look to the superficialities of life but to the depths of the Spirit, not to my needs but the desires of heaven and eternal purpose. It is these that define my daily existence, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Yohana 6:65-68 (KJV); Akasema, Kwa sababu hiyo nimewaambia ya kwamba hakuna mtu awezaye kuja kwangu isipokuwa amejaliwa na Baba yangu. Kwa ajili ya hayo wengi miongoni mwa wanafunzi wake wakarejea nyuma, wasiandamane naye tena. Basi Yesu akawaambia wale Thenashara, Je! Ninyi nanyi mwataka kuondoka? Basi Simoni Petro akamjibu, Bwana! Twende kwa nani? Wewe unayo maneno ya uzima wa milele.
Yesu mara nyingi alifuatwa na umati wa watu. Maandiko yanaeleza katika tukio moja kwamba kwa muda wa siku tatu mfululizo, walikuwa pamoja naye alipokuwa akihubiri na kuhudumu. Hapa palikuwa wanaume, wanawake na watoto walioonekana kutojali njaa yao hivi kwamba ilichukua huruma ya bwana kukidhi hitaji la chakula cha miili yao (Mathayo 15:32).
Lakini ni nini hasa kilichokimbiza umati huu?Kristo alifichua mojawapo ya nia zao katika Yohana 6:26, akionyesha kwamba walimfuata kwa sababu alikuwa amewalisha. Hii ina maana kuwa, walimtaka kwa sababu ya kile ambacho angeweza kufanya ili kukidhi mahitaji yao ya kibinadamu na sio kile ambacho angeweza kufanya kwa hatima ya roho zao.
Inahuzunisha kwa mtumishi wa Mungu ambaye anabeba mzigo wa kweli wa Roho wakati anapopima mioyo ya wasikilizaji wake na kugundua kwamba njaa yao ni ya mkate na si ya uzima.
Anaweza kuona, kwa macho ya roho, kwamba kwa wengine, uwepo wa Mungu ni wa manufaa kwa kadiri utakavyowawezesha kupata kazi, kupata mchumba, kupata mtoto na kuboresha biashara zao. Lakini huo ni sawa na mkate mwana wa Mungu na kwa hakika jua linavyochomoza na kuzama kila siku, bado utakuwa na njaa. Hitaji kwa asili ni uketo lisilo na mwisho. Haja huzaa hitaji.
Uzima ni kile ambacho ni cha milele na wakati mwingine, kupitia mafundisho mengi yanayokuja kwenye roho zetu, lazima tuweze kushikamana na kile tunachojua ni uzima. Watu wanaotafuta mkate huiacha injili kwa urahisi sana kwa sababu ya ubichi wa tamaa yao. Watu wanaopata uzima wanaweza kusimama hata bila mkate. Watakaa na Kristo hata watakapopoteza kazi zao; watakaa na Kristo hata wakati mahusiano yao yanatishiwa; watakaa na Kristo wakati biashara zao zinatatizika kwa sababu wanajua na kuona uzima!
MASOMO YA ZIADA: Mathayo 15:32, Yohana 6:26
UJUMBE MKUU: Watu wanaotafuta mkate huiacha injili kwa urahisi sana kwa sababu ya ubichi wa tamaa yao. Watu wanaopata uzima wanaweza kusimama hata bila mkate. Watakaa na Kristo hata watakapopoteza kazi zao; watakaa na Kristo hata wakati mahusiano yao yanatishiwa; watakaa na Kristo wakati biashara zao zinatatizika kwa sababu wanajua na kuona uzima!
SALA: Baba Mpenzi, Nakushukuru kwa kweli hii. Wewe ni nguvu yangu na chemchemi ya maisha yangu. Wewe ndiwe chanzo na msingi wangu. Ninakataa kutazama ubichi wa maisha bali kwa kina cha Roho, si kwa mahitaji yangu bali matamanio ya mbinguni na kusudi la milele. Ni haya yanayofafanua uwepo wangu wa kila siku, katika jina la Yesu, Amina.
