2 Peter 1:5-6(KJV); And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
God requires that to all the knowledge you have received, you must add self-control.
What this means is that not everything you know must be spoken. In our personal lives, when we are prone to speak whatever we know, we run the risk of turning into gossips.
This wisdom also extends to our spiritual lives and the things we access in God as ministers of the gospel.
Fanaticism has been born of knowledge without self-control; by “revelational zeal” gone on rampage in the absence of the wisdom to know what to say and what not to say.
When Paul the apostle was plunged into a realm of mysteries, he came into contact with laws that govern the utterance of certain unspeakable words(2 Corinthians 12:4). One such law is temperance.
In temperance is the wisdom to weigh the spirit of a man and his ability to bear spiritual insights lest you cast pearls to swine (Matthew 7:6); not everyone can receive what you have to say.
In temperance is the wisdom to speak the right word in season because sometimes the right word in the wrong season still has the capacity to destroy the receiver of it.
