Apostle Grace Lubega
Luke 22:31-32(KJV); And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
In Matthew 16:18, the Lord gave Simon a new name. He said, “That thou art Peter, and upon this rock, I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it”
If He gave him this name, why then in our theme scripture did He refer to him as “Simon?”
This is one of the many things God is deliberate about because therein is a lesson to the Church.
Simon is the man of the flesh. Peter is the man of the spirit.
What does this mean to you as a child of God?
It means that every temptation you face is a God-availed opportunity for the victory of the spirit over the flesh and every time you prevail over the flesh, you are elevated in the spirit.
When Peter prevails over Simon, he is elevated in the spirit that he then has the ability to strengthen his brethren.
This was not any different from Christ’s experience in Luke 4.
In the wilderness, when the enemy came to Jesus, he dealt with the man of the flesh and not of the spirit. It is the man of the flesh who was hungry and would have wanted bread; it is the man of the flesh who would desire the glory of the kingdoms of this world.
When the man of the spirit prevailed over the temptations of the flesh, Jesus was elevated into another dimension of the spirit. The Bible says in Luke 4:14 that He returned to Galilee in the power of the spirit and the news about Him spread through the whole countryside.
I urge you this day to change your mindset and attitude toward temptation.
Every time you face temptation, understand that God is calling forth the spirit man in you to arise in faith; to stand up in victory and to prevail over the flesh and every time you heed to this call you are promoted to your next level in God.
