Numbers 20:8-11 (KJV): Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink. And Moses took the rod from before the Lord, as he commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

Moses was a great man, mightily called and used by God. But it cannot be said of him that he finished the assignment God had for him.
He was meant to take the children of Israel into the promised land. But as we learn from Numbers 20:12. He did not. The Lord told him, “Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.”
What was Moses’ fundamental error?
Besides the inability to control his temper, Moses’ mission and assignment were aborted by familiarity.
Why do I say so?
In Exodus 17:6, the Lord had spoken to Moses thus, “Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.”
In this instance, the instruction was to STRIKE the rock. However, in our theme scripture, the instruction was to SPEAK to the rock.
Moses deferred to what he had done in the past and ignored the instruction the second time. He assumed God was in the method, not in the instruction.
God can ask you to do the same thing differently. If you, because of familiarity, decide to resort to the previous way you did something because it worked then, you offend in the spirit.
You must BE KEEN on the details of the instructions from God. That should always be the basis of your obedience.

Musa alikuwa mtu mkuu, aliyeitwa na kutumiwa sana na Mungu. Lakini haiwezi kusemwa juu yake kwamba alimaliza kazi ambayo Mungu alikuwa nayo kwa ajili yake.

Kwa nini nasema hivyo?

Musa alirejea alichokifanya zamani na kupuuza maagizo mara ya pili. Alidhani Mungu alikuwa katika njia, si katika maelekezo.
Mungu anaweza kukuomba ufanye jambo lile lile kwa namna tofauti. Ikiwa wewe, kwa sababu ya mazoea, utaamua kugeukia njia ya hapo awali uliyofanya hicho kitu kwa sababu ilifanya kazi basi, unakosea rohoni.
Ni lazima UWE MAKINI kwa undani wa maelekezo kutoka kwa Mungu. Huo daima unapaswa kuwa msingi wa utiifu wako.

Moïse prit la verge qui était devant l’Éternel, comme l’Éternel le lui avait ordonné. Moïse et Aaron convoquèrent l’assemblée en face du rocher. Et Moïse leur dit: Écoutez donc, rebelles! Est-ce de ce rocher que nous vous ferons sortir de l’eau? Puis Moïse leva la main et frappa deux fois le rocher avec sa verge. Il sortit de l’eau en abondance. L’assemblée but, et le bétail aussi.

Moïse était un grand homme, puissamment appelé et utilisé par Dieu. Mais on ne peut pas dire de lui qu’il a terminé la mission que Dieu lui avait confiée.
Il était censé emmener les enfants d’Israël dans la terre promise. Mais comme nous l’apprenons Nombres 20 :12. Il n’a pas. Le Seigneur lui dit : « Parce que vous n’avez pas cru en moi, pour me sanctifier aux yeux des enfants d’Israël, vous ne ferez point entrer cette assemblée dans le pays que je lui donne. »
Quelle était l’erreur fondamentale de Moïse ?
Outre son incapacité à contrôler son caractère, la mission et la mission de Moïse ont été avortées par la familiarité.
Pourquoi je dis ça ?
Dans Exode 17 : 6, le Seigneur avait parlé ainsi à Moïse : « Voici, je me tiendrai devant toi sur le rocher d’Horeb; tu frapperas le rocher, et il en sortira de l’eau, et le peuple boira. Et Moïse fit ainsi, aux yeux des anciens d’Israël.
Dans ce cas, la consigne était de FRAPPER le rocher. Cependant, dans notre écriture thématique, l’instruction était de PARLER au rocher.
Moïse s’en est remis à ce qu’il avait fait dans le passé et a ignoré l’instruction la deuxième fois. Il supposait que Dieu était dans la méthode et non dans l’instruction.
Dieu peut vous demander de faire la même chose différemment. Si, par familiarité, vous décidez de recourir à la manière précédente dont vous avez fait quelque chose parce que cela a fonctionné à l’époque, vous offensez l’esprit.
Vous devez être attentif aux détails des instructions de Dieu. Cela devrait toujours être la base de votre obéissance.
