Apostle Grace Lubega
Colossians 2:20-22 (KJV): “Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?”
—
God has called us, as believers, into the dispensation of grace (Ephesians 3:2). Yet despite this, there are still men who continue to teach the law. Our theme Scripture reveals one of the dangers of legalistic doctrine: it often degenerates into the commandments and traditions of men. Those who teach the law frequently drift from the path of sound doctrine and begin to impose rules, standards, and burdens shaped more by personal experience and human understanding than by the heart of God.
The early Church itself encountered this danger. Acts 15:1 says, “And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.” But upon what foundation was this teaching built? How did they come to present circumcision as though it were a covenant established by Moses, when the Scriptures plainly show that it was given through Abraham? This is what happens when divine instruction is gradually overtaken by the commandments and doctrines of men.
The Word of God gives us a solemn warning concerning such things. Colossians 2:23 (NLT) says, “These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.”
What a sobering truth. Man-made rules may appear spiritual. They may look like wisdom. They may even create an outward impression of devotion and discipline. Yet they do not have the power to transform the heart. Therefore, be discerning. Do not be carried away by teachings that exalt human standards above the finished work of Christ. Hold fast to the doctrine of grace. Therein lies true power for victory. Hallelujah!

GOLDEN NUGGET: Be discerning. Do not be carried away by teachings that exalt human standards above the finished work of Christ. Hold fast to the doctrine of grace. Therein lies true power for victory.
PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this Word. I receive it with meekness and am established in its truth. My heart is rooted and grounded in the understanding of Your grace, and my ears remain ever inclined to hear and receive it. I understand what Christ accomplished for me at Calvary, and I choose to live each day in the light of His finished work, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
