Many men and women of God have suffered disrespect and humiliation at the hands of those who did not understand the distinction that God placed on their lives.
In the previous devotion on mantles, I taught that God expects us to recognise and honour the godly mantles around us.
Today, I wish to speak to the minister of the gospel who is undergoing a similar experience to Christ in our theme scripture. You may be shunned and mocked by those closest to you because they observe what makes you human and nothing special in their eyes.
Our Lord did not stop preaching the gospel because those in his home town did not understand Him. Some accounts say that He marvelled because of their unbelief and instead went round about the villages, teaching.
I know ministers who have taken their hands off the plough because of the rejection of kin and friends. Some people have forsaken the gospel because those proximate to them failed to understand their transformation and new allegiance to God.
You must take heart. If your family does not accept you, God will give you one that does. If your nation despises you, God will bring to you those that honour you.
Do your part with all humility and when you are rejected, you have the right like the apostle Paul and Barnabas to say, “Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles” (Acts 13:46).

Marko 6:3-5 (KJV); Huyu si yule seremala, mwana wa Mariamu, na ndugu yao Yakobo, na Yose, na Yuda, na Simoni? na dada zake si hapa pamoja nasi? Nao wakamkasirikia. Lakini Yesu akawaambia, Nabii hakosi heshima, ila katika nchi yake mwenyewe, na kwa jamaa zake, na nyumbani mwake. Wala hakuweza kufanya miujiza yo yote huko, ila aliweka mikono yake juu ya wagonjwa wachache, akawaponya.
Wanaume na wanawake wengi wa Mungu wamekosa heshima na fedheha kutoka kwa wale ambao hawakuelewa tofauti ambayo Mungu aliweka juu ya maisha yao.
Katika ibada iliyotangulia juu ya upako, nilifundisha kwamba Mungu anatazamia tutambue na kuheshimu upako wa kimungu unaotuzunguka.
Leo, ningependa kuzungumza na mhudumu wa injili ambaye anapitia tukio sawa na Kristo katika andiko letu la mada. Unaweza kuepukwa na kudhihakiwa na wale walio karibu nawe kwa sababu wanaona kile kinachokufanya kuwa mwanadamu na sio kitu maalum machoni pao.
Bwana wetu hakuacha kuhubiri injili kwa sababu wale waliokuwa katika mji wake wa asili hawakumwelewa. Baadhi ya masimulizi yanasema kwamba alistaajabu kwa sababu ya kutoamini kwao na badala yake alizunguka katika vijiji, akifundisha.
Nawafahamu mawaziri waliong’oa jembe kutola mikononi mwao kwa sababu ya kukataliwa na jamaa na marafiki. Watu wengine wameiacha injili kwa sababu wale walio karibu nao walishindwa kuelewa mabadiliko yao na utii wao mpya kwa Mungu.
Lazima ujipe moyo. Ikiwa familia yako haikukubali, Mungu atakupa anayekubali. Taifa lako likikudharau, Mungu atakuletea hao wanaokuheshimu.
Fanya sehemu yako kwa unyenyekevu wote na unapokataliwa, una haki kama mtume Paulo na Barnaba kusema, “Kwa kuwa ninyi mnaikataa na hamjioni kuwa mnastahili uzima wa milele, sasa twawageukia Mataifa” (Matendo 13:46).
