Proverbs 22:6 (KJV); Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
When God, through the scriptures, obligated us to train children in the way they should go, he did not limit it to instructing them on how they should behave or conduct themselves in society.
The Hebrew word for ‘train up’ in our theme scripture is ‘chanak’ which is translated to mean, among other things, ‘to initiate.’ Read within that context, the scripture says, “Initiate a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
How do you initiate a child in the way he should go?
The starting point is at birth because birth in itself is a rite of passage. As such, the first words that a child hears are very important.
Certain world religions have borrowed this principle and apply it diligently. For example, in Islam, a call to prayer or adhaan are the first words a newborn Muslim baby should hear. They are whispered into the right ear of the child by his or her father. By this act alone, a child is initiated into a dedicated life of prayer.
You have the power to command the destiny of your child the moment he or she is born.
As you speak, you align them to a godly destiny and place them on the paths of greatness.
