John 4:22-24 (KJV); Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
An important aspect of the revelation of worship is understanding spiritual times and seasons. While it is important to know the God you worship, it is also vital to worship Him in the revelation of the times and seasons within which He functions.
Take the example of the multitudes in the triumphant entry of Christ into Jerusalem. They danced, sang, shouted praises and worshipped Him.
This meant that they had a revelation of who He was to a limited extent because they called Him the son of David, He who comes in the name of the Lord. However, none of them understood the times and seasons of heaven within which Christ was working. They saw a redeemer from Roman rule yet His plan was to purchase eternal salvation for all mankind.
Why is it important to understand spiritual times and seasons?
In 1 Chronicles 12:32, the Bible says of the sons of Issachar, “And of the children of Issachar, which WERE MEN THAT HAD UNDERSTANDING OF THE TIMES TO KNOW WHAT ISRAEL OUGHT TO DO; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.”
When you understand spiritual times, you will always know what God requires you to do.
In Christ’s context, only those that understood the spiritual time and season within which He was living knew what to do. For example, when Mary anointed His feet, it was because she had a discernment of times and seasons and thus prepared His body for burial in advance (Mark 14:8). In your personal context, understanding times and seasons will tell you what you should do; whether to separate yourself for some time in prayer; whether to seek the counsel of a man or woman of God; whether to launch out into an area of ministry.
Besides understanding the person of God, you must continuously be conscious of the times and seasons by which He functions.
